Ming-Chi Kuo: Samsung Galaxy Note 8 to Feature Dual Rear Cameras

Highly respected analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed in a new investor note that Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 8 phablet could be the company’s first flagship handset to feature a dual-camera setup at the back.

The dual-camera setup, according to Kuo, will be the “most important upgrade” in the Galaxy Note 8. Similar to the setup on the iPhone 7 Plus, one of the sensors on the Galaxy Note 8 will be coupled with a telephoto lens, allowing it deliver 3x optical zoom. The wide-angle sensor will apparently be a 12MP unit, while the second sensor with optical zoom feature is going to be a 13MP unit. Both the sensors are said to integrate optical image stabilization and 6P lenses. The analyst claims the Galaxy Note 8’s primary cameras will be superior to the ones found on the iPhone 7 Plus and could very well match the dual-camera setup of the OLED iPhone 8 that is expected to be announced this year.

In addition to shedding some light on the phablet’s cameras, Kuo has detailed some of its key specs as well. The Galaxy Note 8 will apparently feature a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display with QHD+ resolution, identical to the Galaxy S8+. The phablet is expected to be identical to the Galaxy S8+ in terms of processing power as well. Depending on the region, it will be powered by either an Exynos 9 8895 SoC or a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. The fingerprint scanner is said to be positioned at the back, which possibly means the Galaxy Note 8 will feature the same bezel-less design as the Galaxy S8+ on the front.

The analyst also commented on the initial response to the Galaxy S8 as being “better than expected”. This has forced KGI to revise its shipment prediction for the Galaxy S8 and S8+ from 40-45 million units to 50-55 million units. The positive response is being attributed to the full-screen design, which is reportedly proving to be quite effective in attracting high-end users.

Samsung is no doubt off to a great start this year with the Galaxy S8 and S8+, so we are hopeful that the Galaxy Note 8 too will prove to a great success for the manufacturer.
