Public Lab has created an affordable DIY microscope kit which allows users to construct the device themselves and view the microscopic world around them directly on their smartphone device. The Community Microscope Kit has this week launched via Kickstarter to raise the required $20,000 needed to make the jump into production. Watch the demonstration video below to learn more about the affordable microscope kit which is available from $29 or roughly £21 for early bird backers.
Once constructed the microscope is capable of providing access to the microscopic world around you allowing you to see anything from “dust motes, bacteria, chlorophyll and amoebas, a strange and fantastic world surrounds us. Working with people around the world, Public Lab has developed an affordable way to peek into this hidden world.”
The microscope kit takes just 15 minutes to build and plugs directly into your smartphone or laptop. If all goes well worldwide shipping is expected to take place during July 2018. Public Lab is an open community of “activists, tinkerers, organisers, makers, educators and scientists” around the world, who have worked together to design the microscope kit.
