It’s not hard to turn photos into animated GIFs, but if you’ve ever wanted to be inserted into an existing GIF, that’s much harder. The good news is that Snapchat has you covered as the company seems to be testing out a new feature called Cameo that would basically insert your face into a GIF.
This new Cameo feature is similar to deepfakes, where a face of a person is superimposed onto the body of another person. But deepfakes uses AI to help make it look more natural and seamless, whereas Snapchat’s Cameo feature feels a lot more basic.
That’s okay though since this was created to be a fun tool as opposed to trying to fool another person into thinking that it really is you. Users will need to snap a selfie which will then be used in the GIF where there will be several options for users to choose from. Sounds like fun huh?
Snapchat has confirmed that the feature does exist, but they say that they are currently testing it and that it isn’t available to everyone just yet (some users in France are reporting to be using it). I imagine that we will see it very soon.
