Sprint is suing AT&T over its 5G E branding

ATT has not made 5G available to its customers as yet, although the company is calling its 4G network 5G E which means 5G Evolution. The company has come under criticism for this as it could make customer think they are on 5G when they are not.

No Sprint has fiked a lawsuit against ATT for using the 5G branding for its 4G network, Sprint is alleging that ATT is violating US law relating to false advertising.

ATT has now release an official statement which you can see below, the company plans to fight the lawsuit.

“We understand why our competitors don’t like what we are doing, but our customers love it,” ATT said in a statement provided to Ars. “We introduced 5G Evolution more than two years ago, clearly defining it as an evolutionary step to standards-based 5G. 5G Evolution and the 5G E indicator simply let customers know when their device is in an area where speeds up to twice as fast as standard LTE are available. That’s what 5G Evolution is, and we are delighted to deliver it to our customers.”

It will be interesting to see what happens, as the company is using their 5G E branding and not 5G on its own, they may get away with it. Personally I think the use of the 5G E branding is misleading and could make some people think they have a 5G connection when they do not.
