The final installment in the Star Wars trilogy is about to launch later this month. The marketing machine is already running full steam with all kinds of advertising and merchandise being produced. There are toys, posters and all of the usual stuff. But, one of the coolest things that we’ve seen lately comes from Coca-Cola.
The company has produced a limited number of specially-designed Coca-Cola bottles with OLEDs built into them. The OLEDs light-up the lightsabers wielded by Rey and Kylo Ren. That is a great way to market the new movie and sell some extra bottles of Coke at the same time. It’s too bad this technology wasn’t around during the original trilogy.
These bottles were developed by a Berlin-based company called Inuru and come with a smart label that features a built-in printed battery and diodes that when touched, complete the circuit which lights up the OLEDs, causing the lightsabers to glow.
There’s no need to worry about the environmental impact either since these diodes are “eco-friendly” and made without rare earth materials. Each battery is capable of sustaining about 500 activations. So don’t use them too often. I’m sure that geeks and Star Wars fans will be collecting these bottles.
