Wikileaks Julian Assange arrested in the UK

Julian Assange

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has been arrested by police in the UK, Mr Assange has been at the Ecuador Embassy in London since 2012.

Mr Assange was given political asylum at the Ecuador Embassy back in 2012, it would appear that this has now been withdrawn, you can see an official statement from the Metropolitan Police below.

The MPS had a duty to execute the warrant, on behalf of Westminster Magistrates’ Court, and was invited into the embassy by the Ambassador, following the Ecuadorian government’s withdrawal of asylum.

He has been taken into custody at a central London police station where he will remain, before being presented before Westminster Magistrates’ Court as soon as is possible.

He will now be headed to court in the UK and as he breached the terms of his bail conditions when he entered the embassy he could either now face a fine or possibly up to a year in prison. You can see a statement from Home Secretary Sajid Javid below.
